Kinja'd!!!

Is the Lokasil coating in the pre-2007 V8 Cayennes all that sketchy? I’m asking for reasons.

Beyond about 70K miles the coatings are prone to breaking down (in some cases). Turbos, Ss, and 2007+ use nikasil (which Porsche has used forever without issues so not sure why they switched on this one).

Doesn’t seem to be an issue. Not compared to the driveshaft, coolant pipes, and control arms.

So a 2004 S with 43k miles should still be ok in the Lokasil department?

Driveshaft I’ve looked into already.

Coolant pipes should be ok if switched from plastic to steel

Control arms are new to me, are they prone to failure?

No, sorry... mis-wrote that.

Turbos and LATER (2007+) Ss use nikasil. Pre-2007 S uses lokasil and might give you troubles later on. The issue has popped up infrequently, but you would be rolling the dice with that car and there’s no “cheap” solution to fix it.

There is still some life left from 40 to 70k
